During our trip to Alonissos my dosing containers ran dry. Without alkalinity or calcium stock solution my parameters plummeted. Even after slowly bring them back up I lost a few coral. ☹️ .

Happy to say now thing are back to normal and corals are growing again. Not exactly sure how to prevent this problem in the future but for now I've just set reminders on my phone to check the dosing containers more often.

Lastly if I had all the 💸, a rebreather. The Kiss Sidewinder.

mCCR because as a software engineer I would rather trust my life to a mechanical engineer. The company KISS of the mission. The sidewinder because Edd Sorenson dives one rescuing countless people in the Florida caves.

Of corse you need a BCD to stay afloat. Also out of Poland the company XDeep is making some epic products. Tested by cave divers and the like.

My sidemount capable BCD would be the XDeep Stealth Tec 2.0

https://www.xdeep.eu/sidemount-bc-wing-stealth-tec-pr-106.html

Enough lift for stages or CCR, tough, streamlined, and easy to travel with!

Gear, gear, gear! No research would be complete without comparing tones of different types and companies.

I was surprised to find so many great diving products coming out of Poland. With reasonable prices. This is my current regulator top pick.

Tecline R2 Tec1 Sidemount set.

https://katalog.tecline.com.pl/en/regulator-r-2-tec-sidemount-set,3,5147,3468

The price is right and it has all the needed features for sidemount adventures.

Sidemount has really captured my imagination. I love the idea of having extra gas and flexibility underwater. If we move more towards technical diving I think the setup has a lot of advantages over backmount doubles.

Ten levels deep on the scuba research. It started with the idea to look into regulators then expanded into hours of sidemount and rebreather videos and articles.

Hemmend my jeans. Wearing something you’ve put a bit of labor into feels so good!

Thanks to friend who lent me machine.

Took the Giga Jel for a spin. Tried:
- Assisted lead belay
- Lowering climber from above via redirect belay
- Repelling in assisted mode with device attached directly to harness
Only thing left to try is belay from above in manual mode with device attached to anchor.

While slightly heavier then our Petzl Reversos I think it makes up for its weight with utility.

Really enjoyed the Fujiko Nakaya exhibition today at Haus der Kunst. Seeing her trace paper sketches of fog machine / water nozzles reminded me of architecture school.

Also some interesting educational videos by Iwanami Productions. I’ll see if I can dig them up on YouTube.
