At this point in our trip we were staying in Tamarin so it made sense to come down here to Le Morne and dive. Wow it did not disappoint!
We met our guide Ben on his first day of the job, who it turns out was on the same plane into Mauritius as us, at the ScubaCaribe dive center. Plan was to go as a group of four with a local divemaster showing us the way.
Taking a boat from the beach we made a 10min ride through the surf to the dive site. It amazes me how skippers find these sights just based on positioning between landmarks on the coast in the distance. Spot on. We geared up, did our checks then made our first sitting on side of boat falling backwards entry. Soon we were sinking with the ship coming into view below us.
By this dive we were feeling more confident in our skills and new dive computers. We decided to throw some underwater photography into the mix. Thanks to a friend who lent us the GoPro Sessions 5.

Wreck diving was a great experience I look forward to exploring more.
Notes
- Sand floor at 29.9m
- In during the brief I used plan mode on my dive computer to calculate 16min no deco time at 30m. What I didn’t consider is we would be mostly going around the deck of the ship which is significantly higher allowing us to stay down much longer.
- First dive with GoPro. Was quite the experience. Fiddling with camera took my mind of maintaining buoyancy and I struggled to maintain my position. Lot of room for improvement in my multitasking underwater skills.
- I was able to do a hand off of the camera to our guide and capture Masha and I swimming together which was really special.
- Left a review for Ben and ScubaCaribe, here
