Bought a coral for my birthday!

Red Goniopora.

My first Goniopra. Reading care tips I’m a bit nervous with the stories of hobbyist struggles. Hopefully since this is coming from a farmer I trust and has be fragged successfully many times things should be good.

No Gem x Scopas Hybrid for me in Mauritius 🇲🇺 but I did see plenty of brown Scopas tanks which makes me want one for my tank even more.

@tomdeb

Super interesting to hear about your clean up crew. Sizing it is so hard. My tank is 300l ~80gal I have 5 Trochus snails, serpent star fish, cleaner shrimp, arrow crab, six spot golby, and fox face rabbit fish. Including fish that help clean…

My nutrients because of little feeding and algae growing in refugium are zero without dosing. So I dose po4 daily and n03 weekly. Still I have hair algae. Weekly tooth brushing it off rocks keeps it clear for few days but it comes back. Hoping more clean up crew will help.

5 more trochus snails coming, Mespilia globulus urchin, 3x Nassarius snails, 3x Nerita snails.

Thanks for tip about urchin knocking stuff over. Right now everything is glued down. Fingers crossed nothing gets messed up.

Ordered my first Micromuss as well as an army of snails and an urchin to fight my hair algae problem.

Thinking the Giesemann Stellar would be a great update to my lighting system. Two ai primes plus the stellar will raise the PAR and boost my SPS growth and the spread of the bulbs should help get rid of some of the weird growth patterns and shadowed spots.

The new long nose hawkfish is eating well so I brought him out quarantine today. He is enjoying his new home.

Built a shade for the refugium light today. Loving the new rotery tool! 3D printing is cool but a lot of the time plastic objects can be upcycled by cutting them cut into shape. Hopefully now there will be less nuisance algae in the sump.

Got my results back.

https://travisshears.com/personal/documents/analysis-5095.pdf

Calcium was high which I knew about and was accidental, Goal 420 ppm Ca.
Potassium was low.
Iodine was low.

Started using RedSea trace elements to correct the values. It has only been a few days of correcting and already my montipora is showing new polyps which it’s hasn’t before!

If I upgrade my lighting system it will be with Reefi-labs’ LED Uno, such a good price to LED ratio. The software is not glamorous but serviceable. Wonder if I could write something custom over the top? Also I’d have to make a custom mounting bracket to support the Uno and my two existing AI Prime lights. 🤔
